160,000 Aeroexpress passengers saw real pictures of space, which can usually be observed only through a telescope. During the period of increased passenger traffic during the May holidays, the company extended the exhibition of astronomical photographs for three days.
From April 6 to May 3, in the waiting area of the Aeroexpress terminal at Domodedovo Airport, the footage obtained at the Small Observatory of the Moscow Planetarium was presented to all comers. Visitors to the terminal looked at the Sun, star clusters, planetary nebulae, galaxies, and also read a detailed description of astrophotographs. Travelers who were unable to visit the exhibition in person were able to see the pictures on Aeroexpress' social networks.
"We are grateful to the Moscow Planetarium for the opportunity to implement such a large-scale project dedicated to Space Week. The interest in the events exceeded expectations: about 160,000 people visited the exhibition, more than a thousand young passengers received unique space booklets, and almost 3,000 social media users took part in contests and quizzes," said Vera Agafonova, head of the Aeroexpress press service.
It should be noted that educational videos from Roscosmos and the Moscow Planetarium were broadcast on all Aeroexpress trains on routes to Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airports from April 1 to 15. Passengers were introduced to rocket launch preparations, cosmonaut training, Russia's achievements in space, and were also visually shown how much a person would weigh on different planets and how space bodies behave near black holes.
"We hope that a project of this scale, as we have implemented together with Aeroexpress, is an important factor in popularizing astronomy and will contribute to improving astronomical literacy among people of all ages and education," the Moscow Planetarium noted.
Also, from April 6 to April 12, at the terminals at Paveletsky and Belorussky railway stations, the company's employees distributed colorful themed booklets with interesting tasks to young travelers. Manuals for children aged 6-11 were developed jointly with the Moscow Planetarium and were dedicated to space and travel.
