Aeroexpress Increases Its Share of Passenger Traffic to and from Airports in First Four Months of 2021
May 26, 2021
Pricing policy and product diversification contribute to the company’s market share.
Despite the limited air traffic, the company’s market share in transportation services to the airports of the Moscow Air Cluster for the period between January and April 2021 exceeded the pre-pandemic level, amounting to 13%, which is 0.8 percentage points higher than for the same period in 2019.
The updated fare concept focused on passenger demand contributes to the growth of the market share. Last year, Aeroexpress reduced the ticket price to 399 roubles and simplified the fares range by limiting it to three basic options, Standard, Round Trip and Business. Since early 2021, the company has been holding promotional campaigns relevant to a particular season or destination. Thus, it is possible to reach Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo airports at more beneficial prices when travelling at specific times. For families travelling to and from the airport, the cost of a trip per one passenger starts from 200 roubles.
The company has also been developing e-sales. Passengers purchasing Aeroexpress tickets online regularly receive personal offers, which also promotes passenger traffic. For the convenience of passengers, passport details are no longer required for tickets purchased via the website and mobile app. This is now possible thanks to the amendments initiated by the company and introduced to the legislation.
Another factor that contributes to share growth is product diversification. Within one and a half years since being put into operation, express buses provided by the company between the Khovrino metro station and Sheremetyevo Airport have proved to be an alternative way to reach the airport quickly, in comfort and at a fixed price. Bus trips have attracted a new segment of passengers, and their number continues to grow.
‘Given the limited air traffic, we need to actively increase our market share to return to the passenger traffic level of 2019. The taken measures have been showing positive dynamics. However, the number of passengers transported by Aeroexpress still has not reached the level of 2019, due to the limited air traffic,’ said CEO of Aeroexpress Alina Bisembaeva.
In the first four months of this year, the company passenger traffic amounted to 2.7 million people, which is 35% lower compared to the same period in 2019.
