This service was put into operation at the end of 2016 and the demand for free Wi-Fi on Aeroexpress trains has been growing since then. Thus, Aeroexpress passengers connected to the network 2 million times in 2018, which is 25% higher compared to 2017. Every sixth traveller, on average, connects to the Wi-Fi during their ride to/from the airport.

The highest demand for Wi-Fi services aboard Aeroexpress trains can be seen among passengers aged 25 to 34, who account for 33% of all Internet sessions. Smartphones are the most popular devices to connect to the network, with nearly 87% of connections. 7% of passengers use tablets and 6% go online with their laptops.

MaximaTelecom, the Wi-Fi provider for the transport infrastructure of Moscow, have carried out a comprehensive set of works to provide Aeroexpress passengers with stable high-speed internet service. To do so, they have upgraded the network, i.e. audited the network and updated the Wi-Fi equipment firmware. Moreover, new double-decker trains, running on Domodedovo and Vnukovo routes were also equipped with the up-to-date wireless network at the end of 2017.

It is noteworthy that Internet access is provided by Aeroexpress for free on all routes of service, as well as at the company’s terminals located at the airports and rail terminals. To access the network, it is a requirement to register and sign in by confirming a mobile phone number. For users who have already been registered with MaximaTelecom networks (e.g. with the Moscow Metro Wi-Fi network) re-identification is not required.
