About Aeroexpress

Aeroexpress is a dynamic company that provides intermodal and suburban passenger rail services in compliance with its licence from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. Aeroexpress provides rail services between the capital and all the airports of the Moscow Air Cluster, including Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Sheremetyevo.

In 2015, a total of 13,000,000 passengers opted for Aeroexpress services. The company holds 17% of the intermodal transport market. The Aeroexpress quality management system complies with the rail passenger transportation requirements set out in the ISO 9001:2000 international standard. The company was first certified in December 2009. In November 2012, the certificate was successfully extended and will be valid until 8 December 2015. Since 2009, Aeroexpress has been a member of the International Air Rail Organization (IARO) and a participant in the Billing and Settlement Plan for Airline Transport.

Aeroexpress is an integral part of the modern transport system, providing passenger services in Moscow and the Moscow Region, and helps solve acute transport and ecological problems in and around the city. Given the level of traffic congestion along the major highways, only rail transport is able to provide passengers with a convenient and dependable way of travelling between Moscow and its airports. The rail terminals which Aeroexpress trains depart from are conveniently located in the vicinity of stations on the Circle Line of the Moscow Metro. Travel time on high-speed Aeroexpress trains is 35 minutes to Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo International Airports and 45 minutes to Domodedovo Airport.

Aeroexpress owns and operates its own rolling stock of AERO passenger trains, which were specially designed at the Demikhovsky Engineering Plant. The trains are maintained and repaired at the Ilich depot. Aeroexpress is the first private carrier providing suburban passenger transportation services that services its rolling stock independently. In 2016, the company plans to put double-deck trains into operation. In February 2013, the Aeroexpress company officially revealed the results of the tender for supplying double-deck electric trains to Russia. The victory went to Swiss Stadler, with whom Aeroexpress signed a contract for supplying a total of 25 electric trains (118 carriages) according to a basic contract. With the launch of new double-deck rolling stock, the carrying capacity of Aeroexpress trains will increase by 40%.

In 2013, the company introduced its own free mobile app, the Pay@Gate payment service (enabling passengers to pay for their journeys using Visa payWave or MasterCard PayPass cards directly at the turnstiles), and the option to pay for Aeroexpress tickets using Sberbank’s mobile banking service. In 2014, the company sold over one million e-tickets and the Aeroexpress app was downloaded by 500,000 people.

In 2014, Aeroexpress tickets became available throughout the world thanks to the company’s cooperation with PayPal’s international e-payment system. Since 2014, Troika card holders have been able to use their cards to pay for Aeroexpress journeys. In April 2015, the company launched wireless internet equipment aboard all its trains and now provides a high-speed Wi-Fi connection free of charge. Aeroexpress passengers can enjoy a wireless internet connection of up to 115 Mbit/sec throughout their journey.

In December, the Aeroexpress terminal at the Paveletsky Rail Terminal opened after being renovated. It covers an area of 2,000, making it one of the largest terminals in Europe.

The renewed Aeroexpress terminal at Paveletsky Rail Terminal meets modern requirements of railway facilities, as well as modern passenger needs. The terminal is equipped with an individual exit to the rail platform, lifts and escalators, 21 flight ticket offices, 16 ticket vending machines, and five ticket offices, one of which has been specially adapted for physically-challenged passengers. The terminal's capacity has increased three-fold, thereby reaching 1,800-2,000 people per hour.

Aeroexpress protects the interests of disadvantaged social groups. Upon request, physically challenged passengers shall be offered assistance by a Personal Assistant free of charge. This service is available in Moscow and in all regions where the company operates. Electric train carriages are equipped with folding ramps and special seats for wheelchair users. They also have special seats and toilets for physically challenged passengers. The ticket offices at the company’s terminals are equipped with intercom systems for hearing impaired passengers. The platforms at rail terminals and Aeroexpress terminals are equipped with tactile plates, enabling visually challenged passengers to move on their own. In December 2013, Aeroexpress launched a website version for visually impaired people.

Aeroexpress applies advanced management methods. The ISO 9001:2008 international certificate confirms the company’s compliance with the international standards for passenger rail transportation. Aeroexpress is also certified for its corporate activities’ compliance with the requirements of ISO 26000:2010 international standard, Guidance on Social Responsibility. The certificate was issued by the Russian National Association of Rail Transport Employers.
